Building Resilience Through Cooperation and Team Bonding

Covid-19 has swept the globe, disrupting the lives of the majority of the population. It has also shaken the global supply chain, businesses that need human interaction to thrive, and sent the community into isolation. As a consequence of the various lockdown measures across the globe, the economy is facing a tremendous crisis, which is also leading to anxiety among employees, business owners, and the general public. The collateral damage is massive, and many such problems are compounding to create significant problems. How can we cope with this crisis and the brewing situation? Let's find out.

Since this situation is something that we have never faced before, we need to become innovative and find new ways to build resilience. We need to find and implement new ways of collaborating, working, and problem-solving. With the ongoing pandemic, one's mind is sure to get distracted with all the negative news that's making rounds online. According to research, a wandering mind has a higher tendency to develop negative thoughts, and such thoughts are even more frequent during the current crises.

Isolation and negative thoughts diminish one's capability to think, and team cooperation is crucial to maintain the wellbeing of members. This team cooperation, in these times, has been pushed to become virtual, and teams all across the world are showing new ways of virtual cooperation and are creating delightful moments for each other.

At Arcgate too, employee wellbeing is a top priority, and we strive to create many happy moments for our team. On these lines, we decided to launch a motivational campaign for our colleagues and by our colleagues.

Our little example brings more than 30 of our colleagues to create a message for the rest of the Arcgate family and the world. The Arcgate team is following social distancing norms to the highest of standards, and at the same time creating motivating moments like these.

As you see in the pictures, our team virtually gathered with the messages:

"This too shall pass, let's stay safe at home, and save lives. Better days will come soon. Corona Go Away!" and "We are all in this together, so please stay home and help us to stop the spread."

Both messages are trying to raise awareness within the team while showing solidarity with all the members of the company. Apart from this, our Workmob pages are filled with many posts of our colleagues motivating each other with their work-from-home pictures and stories. This environment has a positive impact on the employees and also contributes to their social wellbeing and productivity. This activity of virtual togetherness gives the team a sense that they are not alone and the team is close at hand in case of any need. This, in turn, helps the team members build resilience in the time of crisis.

Moreover, on a bit philosophical note, in life, there are things that we can control and then there are some that we can’t. In either of these cases, the outcome must not lead to negative thinking as that will not lead to a solution. On the other hand, harboring harmony through cooperation and helping each other can lead to innovation and agility in a corporation.

One can start with the following to adapt faster to the current times:

  • Talk to your team with compassion then be it your seniors or your juniors. When we are working on our systems, it is tricky to connect to a person over email or messages in the same way we do in a personal meeting. Therefore, we need to realize that we are all in the same boat and we need to support each other.
  • Be calm and patient in whatever you do. You can exercise at home or meditate for 5-10 minutes while working or before starting your day. You can also introspect and ask what is important to maintain your focus.

In a time of self-isolation and social distancing, a team that is interacting at an increased level is sure to have higher morale and resilience. Teams can aim to bond over web activities like the one that we have practiced at Arcgate. And, just to reiterate this too shall pass. Stay strong. Cheers.
